We are delighted to present this interdisciplinary project, the result of a semester-long collaboration involving five CSUN professors: Vida Liu, Kristin Taylor, and Meiqin Wang from the Department of Art, as well as Yoko Mimura and Jongeun Kim from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Through their guidance, students from five classes, including ART 100/L Intro to Art Processes, ART 385/L Children’s Crafts, ART 342/542 Exhibition Design, FCS 320 Family Resource Management, and FCS 471/L Apparel Design, have come together to engage in interdisciplinary learning and collaborative exploration. This collaborative endeavor has culminated in the presentation of an art exhibition and a fashion show, both of which delve into the multifaceted sustainability challenges within the realms of art and fashion.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Interdisciplinary Pilot Projects fund, generously provided by the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication. This vital funding has been instrumental in supporting our experimental and collaborative curriculum, allowing this project to come to life.

We would also like to acknowledge the valuable support from CSUN’s Instructionally Related Activities (IRA), the Associated Students (AS), and the Sustainability Department of AS, which generously provided the funds necessary for the successful implementation of this project and its ancillary events.

Additionally, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to Holly Jerger, the Director of CSUN Art Galleries, and Erika Ostrander, the Art Galleries Office Manager. Their professional work and operational support have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
Lastly, we want to recognize the Art Department for providing the necessary curriculum framework that enabled this collaborative effort between students and instructors to flourish.

Dr. Meiqin Wang,
